In the foothills of the Sierra de Ronda and the slopes of the Sierra de las Nieves, on the Costa del Sol, we can find this town in the province of Malaga, located about 79kms from the capital and 7 from the coast, between the towns of Marbella, Estepona and Ronda. The term surface is about 145km2 with a population of more than 4,300 inhabitants, of whom almost 45% are foreigners.
The origins lie in the X century with the construction by the Arabs of the fortress-castle called Montemayor, in a strategic place which commanded much of the Spanish coast of Africa, on land belonging to the family Banu Habis. During the Arab rule were founded Benahavis villas and Daidín between the towns of Estepona and Marbella, from which they were dependent.
With the surrender of Marbella to the Christian troops of King Ferdinand, various castles and squares were also given to him, including Benahavis, Daidín and Montemayor Castle, going to the custody of the Earl of Ribadeo. King Philip II in 1572 proclaimed Benahavis independent from Marbella, becoming an autonomous municipality.
-Montemayor Castle.- It is the main monumental work of the municipality. Built-in the X century, there is still remnants of the walls and the Tower Queen, which are in good condition.
-Parroquia de La Virgen del Rosario.- Built-in the late XVII century, suffered several extensions, such as that made school-chapel, founded by Cardinal Herrera Oria and then transformed into a small classical temple construction and simple forms of a single ship. The interior is surprisingly simple and whiteness, the altar is a mosaic of stone.
-The Palace of XVI century.- Here we can find some units from the Townhall. It has a square tower with an arcaded courtyard, the building has a Moorish style, and we have to highlight its dark stone walls.

Other attractions include some of the watchtowers that were built in the XIII century, and still admire, like the tower Leonera of great importance for being the gateway to the basin of Guadalmina, the Tramores, the Esteril, the Torrecilla.
-August Fair.- With the purest Andalusian style, it is celebrated from 11th to 15th August, the last day out in procession the Mistress, La Virgen del Rosario.
-Virgin of the Rosary Pilgrimage.- It is celebrated on October 7th with a procession from the village to the Ermita de la Virgen, which hosts dances, shows and tastings of typical products.
