Do you love Andalusia, magic and the colour blue? This picturesque village has a mixture of all of these, receiving the name “Pueblo Pitufo” (Smurf Village). The village of Júzcar, as it is actually called, is located on the mountain range of the Serranía de Ronda, in the province of Málaga. This is a typical small village, with about 225 inhabitants and full of slopes and streets that you will love to walk through. The best of all is that you will only need a few hours to explore it all. Today from Marbesol we tell you what to see in Júzcar, the blue village.
What stands out the most about this small village are the blue houses and the Smurf figures scattered around the village, an original and different attraction compared to the white villages of Malaga. Júzcar is one of the most charming villages in Andalusia.
This unusual Smurf village was a place unnoticed by tourists until 2011, when the well-known production company Sony Picture chose this village for the filming of the successful movie “The Smurfs 3D”, which is the reason why all the houses in this village are painted blue, even to the point of painting the Town Hall and the Church. However, in 2017, the Smurf village was claimed by the copyright for everything related to the Smurfs saga itself. It was at that time that the blue village was renamed the Blue Village, although for all the people of Malaga it will always be Júzcar, the Smurf village.
In this village there are different balconies from which you can have a view of the beautiful landscapes of the chestnut groves of Sierra Bermeja and the Serranía de Ronda. Some of the balconies we recommend are the viewpoint of El Jardón and the viewpoint of La Torrichela, without a doubt one of the most beautiful things to see in Júzcar.
The best option to see in Júzcar. The best way to get to know this little smurf village of Júzcar is to walk around all its corners on foot. The route (there are different signs located inside the village, telling us where the route passes through and indicating all the graffiti so that we don’t miss any) is designed to get lost in the network of narrow streets of blue houses, in which you will find numerous graffiti of the Smurfs characters. There are a total of 14 graffiti scattered throughout the village. Each of these wall drawings has a QR code and if you put them all together, you will be rewarded with the secret hidden in these paintings. There are also several giant statues of the Smurfs, the most famous of which are the Smurfette and Papa Smurf.
In the central square of the village, very close to the church, a well-known market is set up every weekend where handicrafts, gastronomy and a wide variety of souvenirs of the Smurfs are sold, all of which are handmade and local. There is also a bar where drinks are served. You may also find interesting an activity proposed by the Smurf village of Júzcar, which is the tapas route in which several bars participate, costing only 1 euro.
This village has a natural environment in which there are different hiking routes available to enjoy nature. Among the best known routes are: Los Molinos, Barranco de Majales, El Torcal de los Riscos, La Fábrica de Hojalata, Barranco de la Sima del Diablo, Ruta de los Riscos… You can find much more information on the official website of the Júzcar Town Hall.
To get to Júzcar, if you are from the province you will know how to do it, if you come from outside and arrive by plane, you can rent a car at Malaga airport. You can get there from the capital on the A-7, following the signs to San Pedro de Alcántara until you reach exit 172, which joins the A-397.
Once there, you can stay overnight in the different options at the price that best suits you, from hotels, penthouses or even spectacular rural houses are at your disposal. Another great option is to look directly for accommodation in Ronda, having a much wider range of different offers, we even recommend that you look at different accommodation search engines.
Being the Smurfs’ Village quite small, it is perfect to combine it with other villages that are close and interesting, such as the city of Ronda, Genalguacil, Alpandeire or Setenil de las Bodegas. You can discover the most beautiful villages in the province of Malaga, explore the white villages of Malaga, enjoy the Caminito del Rey… As you can see, this province lacks for nothing. All you need to do is wear comfortable shoes and get ready to make the most of these natural surroundings.
